Overview:
This qualification covers the covers the knowledge, understanding and some of the skills associated with the design, specification, installation, inspection, testing, commissioning and handover of electrical energy storage systems (EESS). It follows the IET Code of Practice for Electrical Energy Storage Systems and industry guidance, together with the requirements of BS 7671.
It is aimed at competent electricians who wish to demonstrate they have the necessary understanding and skills associated with an EESS associated typically with a dwelling.
It has a range of relevant outcomes covering statutory legislation applicable to EESS, the principles of batteries and EESS, how to specify and design an EESS, installation, inspection and testing, and handover of an EESS.
Qualification pre-requisites:
Learners must be at least 18 years old.
Who is this qualification for?:
This qualification is for suitably qualified electricians only who are conversant with inspection and testing and the wiring regulations. Centres should also ensure that the learner has the potential to achieve the qualification. Learners must have the minimum levels of literacy and numeracy to complete the learning outcomes and assessments.
Centres should make learners with particular requirements aware of the content of the qualification and they should be given every opportunity to successfully complete the qualification. EAL will consider any reasonable suggestions for, and from, those with disabilities that would help them to achieve the learning outcomes without compromising the standards required.

How is this qualification assessed?:
The qualification is assessed by a by the use of an Onscreen multiple choice exam, and an EAL set, and centre marked assessment. Both assessments must be passed for the qualification to be awarded.
How is this qualification delivered?:
Unit delivery packs are designed to assist the delivery staff and contain the unit learning outcomes, assessment criteria and the practical assessment details, and the guidance and instructions needed for carrying out and administering the internal assessments.
